Rain Delay

We went to the Durham Bulls game last night, as part of a group function in one of the covered party areas. We were grateful for the cover when a storm blew in. Before the game started, the sky grew dark and the air grew cool. The grounds crew struggled to lay the tarp as the wind picked up (they knew from radar what was coming our way). There are going to be some sore people today, but with the help of some extra hands and a mower they finally managed to get it laid and pegged down.

Then the deluge started. You can see the rain blowing over our "roof" in the upper right.

Fortunately we were mostly dry (the canopy had a few leaks, but it was easy to avoid the drips). We also had food and drink, so we sat and ate and watched the storm.

At one point the weather started clearing, and they pulled the tarp back, swept the water away, and put down some new dirt (something I'd never seen).

Then more rain came and they quickly pulled the tarp back over the diamond. Eventually the weather cleared a second time, and they rolled the tarp up and started the game!

It was a two hour delay, so we didn't get to see much of the game before the kids needed to head home and get some sleep. We made it through the third inning, when the Bulls were down 3-4. I checked the scoreboard online and wish we'd stayed for another inning. The Bulls scored six in the fourth, and wound up winning the game 13-6.
