Fort Astoria

As promised, here are some pictures of Norman's Fort Astoria landmark project in progress.

He found a couple of pictures online to use as a guide for his model:

Making a cardboard frame to shape the terrain on the base board:

Using paper mache to create the landscape contours:

The completed buildings and fences, sitting on top of the unpainted landscape:

Adding aluminum foil to create a reflective surface for the water:

Painting the landscape (with help from Boo):

Oops! Snowy chewed on one of the canoes. (The dog ate my homework, really!)

Lots to do on the final evening, adding the newly-purchased trees and shrubs.

It came down to the wire, but he finished it in time for the big day!

The foil rectangles on the front are labels Simon made that say: "Fort Astoria / Oregon, 1811" and "By Norman Briggs".
