There was an article about corn mazes in the September issue of
FamilyFun Magazine. That sounded like fun to me, and they even listed one in Fredericksburg, VA, where we'd stopped on our way home from Philadelphia in August. It didn't take much to convince the kids that we should go on a weekend camping trip there instead of throwing a big birthday party (or parties). I wanted to try out a cabin at the KOA, rather than taking Lucy on such a short, close trip -- that took a lot of convincing. Boo was totally against the idea, but she finally agreed to give it a try just this once. Aside from the rain, we had an enjoyable stay, and the kids really liked being in the cabin. The two best features:
The door had a wooden latch on the inside. To open it from the outside you pulled down on a cord that ran through a hole in the door. Amazing how something so simple can be so fascinating. Opening the door was entertainment in itself.
The cabin slept four, with a double bed and a bunk bed! Childhood bliss. Boo was a bit miffed that Norman got to sleep on the top, but we simply told her you had to be eight before you could sleep on the top bunk. End of discussion.
The kids remembered the campground from our stay in August. Here they are on the playground on Friday, when the weather was still dry.
