Happy Birthday to Norman

Norman's birthday started a day early. He wanted to go to Elmo's Diner for dinner like Boo did for her birthday. They both have soccer practice over dinnertime on Wednesdays though, so we agreed that we should have his celebratory dinner the night before. The kids had baths in the afternoon so they could just go to bed when we got home from eating. After her bath Boo decided that she needed to wear her fancy dress and ruffly socks -- one needs to dress up for a birthday! Not to be outdone, Norman put on the blue slacks and dress shirt he wore to the cotillion graduation ceremony. They had their usual (chocolate chip pancake for him, noodles and cheese for her), and hot fudge sundaes for desert. This time we were expecting the candle.

I signed up to be lunchtime reader for Norman's class, and brought miniature cupcakes along too. It was also his classmate Jack's birthday. Before lunch the class sang Happy Birthday while the teachers rocked them from side to side (difficult to do with two students) while they wore special hats. Apparently this is a tradition in their class. Thus there was no singing (or candles) with the cupcakes.

Norman opened his presents after school -- a "Mobile Spy Ear" from Boo (that's what he's been asking for from the toy store recently), a few Lego kits, and a new RC off-road car. Not hard to guess which was his favorite.

We had the leftover cupcakes at teatime, along with singing and candle blowing.

There wasn't much time for playing before the kids headed out for soccer practice. Norman brought his car, and gleefully drove it around in the grass during Boo's practice (which is before his). More treats arrived while they were gone, so he returned home to find candy from the boy across the street, a card from Nanny Sandy and GrandDad Mick, and a box full of sweets from Grammy and Jim.

Only two candles (and one was actually yesterday) but it was still a lot of birthday! I almost neglected to include a "bow on forehead" picture. Almost ...
