Another Busy Weekend

The kids both had soccer games on Saturday. And neither game was canceled! Simon was soccer parent while I straightened the house a bit (barely made a dent) and bought our week's worth of groceries. Here's a picture from Norman's game, and he's not playing goalie this time. With a 9:00 start, it was apparently chilly enough that he didn't want to stand still for too long.


Today we took a ride on the New Hope Valley Railway. We used to ride several times a season, but had forgotten about it lately. They sell tickets online now, so you no longer have to show up way before departure time to hope for a seat. This made the whole experience much more pleasant. It also meant that we could easily choose a steam engine ride (as opposed to the diesel engine). Whooo-whooo! I just love the sound of the steam whistle. We rode on one of the cabooses (there is one at each end), which meant we were at the back of the train on the way out and right behind the engine on the way back (it's an out and back trip where the engine switches ends via a shunting track). We had a brief break after the train ride, then headed over to DA for the All-School Picnic. It's an annual event sponsored by the Parents Association. I'm not sure why they bill it as a picnic, since it runs from 3:00 to 5:00 which isn't really meal time. The kids enjoy it since they have arcade-type skill games with little prizes, plus popcorn, sno-cones, cotton candy, and face painting. Here's Boo back at home, still wearing her "rabbit face".


Lea-Frances helped me prepare dinner while Simon took Norman to Cub Scouts. Then dinner, ice cream, bath time, teeth brushing, stories, ... both kids are asleep now after a very full day.
