Sea Turtle Trip

The third grade took a field trip yesterday to the Sea Turtle Hospital on Topsail Island. They've been learning about sea turtles in school, and also working hard to create turtle-related items for their recent "Sea Turtle Gift Shop", a fundraiser whose proceeds were donated to the Sea Turtle Hospital as part of their trip (the muffins I made on Mother's Day were for this fundraiser). Norman brought a camera along and took a few pictures while he was there. Here's his description of the trip, along with some of those photos:

"We rode on big buses, and left the school at 6:00am. On the way there we watched "Finding Nemo" on the bus. We all wore special T-shirts with names of every third grader this year. My name is on the upper left by the eyes, and also on the lower right on the turtle's behind.

There were lots of sea turtles there in big plastic tubs about three feet high. They had their names on the sides of the tanks. We wandered past and looked at them.

This is Lefty. As you can see, he only has a left flipper.

I don't know this turtle's name, but I like the sunburst pattern on the shell.

Then we went into the museum where we played bingo and did a scavenger hunt. The museum there had a really big shell collection.

In the end we presented Karen Beasley with a giant purple check. On the way back we watched "Shrek" on the bus. I had a great time!"
