Kenilworth - trip post 2

Our second excursion was a Boxing Day trip to Kenilworth with Simon's sister Presia and her family. The castle's car park was full due to a nearby Duck Race, so we made a detour to The Peeping Tom pub for lunch. Norman had chicken nuggets and chips, while Boo had a ham and cheese sandwich.

Pubs are pretty family friendly these days (and non-smoking too). The kids played in the children's play area outside both before and after our meal. As you can tell from the hoods, hats, and mittens, it was a pretty cold day. They didn't seem to mind much, as they ran around like banshees with their cousins.

After lunch we headed back to Kenilworth Castle, the largest castle ruin in England. Simon and I visited here on my first trip to England almost 10 years ago.

It was closed due to the holiday, but we got a bit of exercise walking around the perimeter of the walls. The three older kids scampered up the slopes and tried to enter at all the doors.

They also rolled on the ground at one point, and Norman came in contact with a stinging nettle. Fortunately Tony knew a folk remedy - rubbing with the crushed leaf of the dock plant, which he found nearby.

Here's Boo, resting in an alcove at the end of our walk.
