The Parasaurolophus at the entrance to the trail is the only model you're allowed to climb on, and the kids took full advantage of this: they lay on its tail, sat on its head, and surfed on its back.
I think the Edmontonia was our favorite model. Boo called him "angry eyes". I have pictures of just the the model where his eyes look even angrier, but I like this picture because he appears to be checking Boo out (the angle makes him look much closer than he actually is).
For the most part the kids looked at the dinosaur models and ignored the additional information. A couple of the signs had 3-D enhancements that caught their attention though, like this Albertosaurus jaw.
For them, the best part was the Fossil Dig. It's basically a giant sandbox with shovels, sieves, and buckets. According the the museum's website, the sand comes from Aurora, NC, and was once part of the ocean floor. It contains marine fossils (coral, shells, sharks teeth ...) that are 23 million to 5 million years old! Norman and Boo spent far more time digging than they did looking at the dinosaurs, and both brought home a baggie full of "treasure".
