Pictures (and a few words) from our "Excellent Christmas Holiday Adventure" in Maine and New Hampshire:
Christmas Eve in Brunswick, having just opened the final door on their Advent Calendars.
Lea-Frances discovered the joy of radiator-used-as-bottom-warmer. Note Grand-Pere's Red Sox Champions sweatshirt, which he joked he never thought he'd live to see.
It snowed on Christmas morning! We took a walk around Bowdoin's campus in the afternoon. They both have on huge borrowed boots.
Warming up on the radiator after our walk - great for drying off after making snow angels.
The next morning we took a walk down to the Androscoggin River and watched the ice chunks flow under the suspension bridge. The kids threw snowballs at the relatively-thin ice, trying to see who could break through it.
In the afternoon we walked through the woods at GiGi's house in Newcastle. The kids loved stomping on the ice then picking up sheets like glass. Lots of walking for one day.
It snowed again on our last day in Brunswick, and Uncle Nate and Devin braved the weather to visit. They had a big snowball fight with Lea-Frances, which Norman joined, and then Simon too.
Grand-Pere with his three grandchildren.
Group photo for posterity: Gramie Margie, Francine, Uncle Ike, Norman, Cousin Devin, Uncle Nate, Grand-Pere, Lea-Frances, Uncle Samuel, and Simon.
Playing with electronic devices while sitting on the radiator ... getting to be a habit. You can see they both have wet pants from playing outside in the snow.
Driving to New Hampshire, or technically stopping while on our drive. The kids were impressed by the plow piles at the Kennebunk Rest Area on I-95, which they climbed while Simon bought coffee.
Norman and Jim playing "Crimson Skies" on the Xbox.
We visited the Museum of New Hampshire History in Concord with Grammie and Jim.
Both kids loved the New Hampshire landscape building blocks with mountains, trees, water, grass, reads, parking lots, factories, houses, stores, ... They arranged and rearranged until they had a small town covering the entire table.
Norman kept wandering back to tweak and refine the layout for the duration of our visit.
The next morning the kids went for a swim in the indoor pool at our hotel.
Lea-Frances wanted a picture at the pool where you could see the snow outside the window.
In the afternoon we visited the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center with Grammie. Here is Lea-Frances (successfully!) landing the space shuttle at the Kennedy Space Center.
The observatory was open, so the kids got a chance to check out sunspots through a big, powerful telescope.
Here is Norman landing a lunar rover on the moon. The kids remember both the simulators from past visits, and couldn't wait to test their skills again.
We flew back the last day of the year, ready to celebrate another Christmas at home on New Year's Day.
